I am privileged  to live in New Zealand, a country of 2 main islands, that have magnificent landscape features including: volcanoes, mountains, rivers, glaciers, lakes and seasides.
I live in Palmerston North, a small city, home to Massey University. I live close to the Manawatu River, about half way along its winding route from the mountains through a spectacular narrow gorge, then it loops its way to an estuary at Foxton Beach and out to the Tasman Sea.

My childhood was spent in the South Island, and my parents often took us camping, usually near to water as my father was a keen fisherman. The spectacular scenery was taken for granted. I now live in the North Island where explorations continued with my own family. Frequently I visit my children in Melbourne where we lived for a short while, and I enjoy comparing and contrasting the landscape there with that of New Zealand.

My mother was a dressmaker, and my father an engineer.  It is therefore not surprising that over the years I have enjoyed hand crafts...spinning, tapestry weaving, canework, felting, sewing and embroidery. Along the way I have acquired calligraphy, drawing, photography, bookmaking and computer skills. Recently I have been captivated by printmaking and collage. The way in which these inherent skills combine is what makes each art work personally unique and satisfying.

I am particularly drawn to textural elements, and take notice of where two disparate materials meet... there is always an interesting imperfection in between, that for me, often leads on to what is behind or underneath.... another dimension to be revealed.
I am also observant of marks and patterns... either made by nature or man made, frequently anything that has a  horizontal tonal variation in it I interpret as a landscape.
In fact, I tend toward anything made by hand, especially if it has a touch of wabi sabi about it - bricks, hand tools, stone walls, cobblestones, graffitti, bottles to name a few. Perhaps the habit of the Australian Bower bird of feathering ones's nest with interesting objects, has rubbed off on me, as I have many small collections of objects that take my fancy.... as if there is a need to have inspiration at hand at all times!

The joy of representing the seen, the unseen and the in-between is what I call My Art.
